Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor in
“Digital Technology in Society”
pay scale W2 with tenure track option to W3; to begin in summer semester 2017.
The professorship belongs to the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS), which serves as a cross-faculty integrative research center focusing on the interface between science, technology and society. The Center’s research agenda is dedicated to Science and Technology Studies with a comprehensive orientation towards technology, technosciences and technical universities. MCTS conducts its projects in close cooperation with TUM’s various departments, in the case of the Professorship for Digital Technology in Society with the Department of Informatics.
The duties of TUM professors include research, teaching and the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Digital Technology in Society with a focus on digital technologies.
Teaching duties include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs as well as supervising PhD students. The MCTS provides the successful candidate the conditions to develop an independent and vigorous research program.
We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest levels.
International scientific experience during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase is required. The successful candidate shows pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English.
Experience in Science & Technology Studies, social theory and participatory methods of qualitative social research as well as in building and maintaining interdisciplinary links between science, engineering and social sciences are mandatory. A strong focus on digital technologies and proven competency in Computer Science are necessary. Experiences in applying for third-party funding for interdisciplinary projects and in teaching in interdisciplinary programs are preferred.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor and on to Full Professor.
